Forbes came out with its list of billionaires and techies make an impressive showing on the list.
There are 1,645 people in the world with more than $1 billion to their name. All together they’re worth $6.4 trillion, up from $5.4 trillion last year. These stats and others are from Forbes’ annual list of the richest people in the world. Technologists are well represented on the list, including in three of the top 10 spots. Eight of the top 10 richest techies in the world are based in the United States. By now you’ve probably heard Bill Gates is back at #1, but check out the techies who are keeping him company
Bill Gates, $76B
The Microsoft co-founder is not just the richest technologist in the world, but he has been the richest man in the world for 15 of the last 20 years. His net worth is up from $67 billion last year, when he was #2 on the list.
Carlos Slim Helu & family, $72B
Slim has been giving Bill Gates a run for his money as the richest man in the world in recent years. He’s the chief executive of two major telecommunications companies, Mexico’s Telmex and America Movil, a Latin American company.
Larry Ellison, $48B
The founder and CEO of Oracle is the second richest American and an avid sailboat racer.
Larry Page, $32.3B
One of Google’s co-founders, Page now serves as its CEO.
