Inside the ASX data centre in Gore Hill, Sydney

  • Exterior of the ASX Australian Liquidity Centre (ALC) in Gore Hill, Sydney. There are currently more than 70 customers at the ALC including investment banks, Australian brokers, proprietary firms and telecommunications carriers.

  • The ALC technology control centre. ASX security staff control and monitor the site 24/7. Cameras are located at all access points while access to the data centre is controled by a security token system.

  • The main data hall is 1500 square metres. ASX infrastructure is positioned in the centre of the room and linked to clients' cabinets using identical length cables. This ensures uniform service delivery regardless of the location of the cabinet.

  • ALC customers can also connect to each other within the site. Customers may benefit from reduced lead times to connect to their service providers.

  • ASX is linked to other markets including Chicago, New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. This includes a direct connection between the ALC and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) data centre.

  • The data hall is laid out in a hot aisle/ cold aisle configuration to manage the computing heat load. The ALC uses three 1.2 megawatt (MW) air-cooled chillers and the data hall is on a raised floor with floor grills for even air distribution.

  • To ensure uninterrupted power supply, the ALC runs three diesel rotary uninterruptible power supply systems (DRUPs), each capable of providing 1.6 megawatts of power.

  • Cables running overhead in the the ALC. Access to under-floor or elevated cabling can only be accessed by authorised ASX staff.
