HP's new WebOS smartphones, tablets in pictures

A first look at Hewlett-Packard's TouchPad, Pre 3 and Veer

  • The HP Pre 3

The Pre 3 looks a lot like the Pres of the past. HP, which bought Palm and its webOS mobile operating system last year, swears the keyboard is amazing and larger than the previous generations, but I'll have to verify that in my hands-on tests. The phone sports a 3.6-inch 480-by-800 WVGA display that is two times the resolution of the first Pre. The Pre also sports HD video capture, a forward-facing video camera, and HSPA+ as well as EVDO Rev. A so it can be used as a world phone. Most intriguing, the Pre 3 has a 1.4 GHz processor.

  • The HP TouchPad

The specs for the TouchPad are competitive, but only the processor--a dual-core 1.2-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon--catches attention. Beyond that, the specs sound fairly familiar: A 9.7-inch 1024 by 768 pixel display (less than the Android 3.0-based 1280 by 800 Motorola Xoom), 16GB or 32GB of storage, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The unit's dimensions feel fairly standard, too--0.54-inches thick, which puts it about the same or a sliver thicker than the Apple iPad and Motorola Xoom. It also weighs 1.6 pounds, same as Xoom, but 0.1-pounds more than the iPad.

  • The HP Veer

The ultra-thin HP Veer has a 2.6-inch display, which is pretty small compared to the 3.5-inch and larger displays we see on most smartphones today. Details looked sharp and colors were bright and vivid.
