ASUS RT-N15 SuperSpeed N Wireless Router

The ASUS RT-N15 SuperSpeed N Wireless Router is a networking device that’s easy to overlook when there are products from Netgear, Linksys, and Belkin next to it on the store shelves (or virtual shopfront), but it’s definitely worth your time and money. It has a built-in 802.11n wireless access point, a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, a built-in router and firewall functions.

ASUS Eee PC 1004DN

With the 1004DN, the ASUS Eee PC range has moved away from being just a simple netbook. The inclusion of a DVD burner, a fingerprint reader and an ExpressCard/34 slot all make the ASUS Eee PC 1004DN more of a traditional notebook than a netbook because you can do so much more with it. The good thing is that it is still a relatively inexpensive, 10in ultraportable notebook that's very stylish and reasonably comfortable to use.

MSI Wind U120 netbook

There's no doubt the Windows XP-based MSI Wind U120 netbook looks good. Its white lid and palm-rest contrast beautifully with the glossy black bezel of the screen and the matte black base; but the Wind U120 offers more than just good looks. You get plenty of useful features, good battery life, and an ultraportable notebook that's easy to use.

Toshiba Portege R600 (PPR61A-00400R)

You'd be hard pressed trying to find a lighter notebook than Toshiba's Portege R600 (PPR61A-00400R), which weighs only 950 grams and is aimed at business users who regularly need to travel. It's a 12.1in laptop and it's very thin, but it doesn't have cut-price parts running it: you still get an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 3GB of RAM and a 120GB solid-state drive. It runs Windows Vista (or Windows XP — you get to choose).

HP EliteBook 2530p notebook

HP's EliteBook 2530p is a 12in laptop that weighs 1.7kg, yet packs in a lot of features. It's aimed squarely at business users and has a tough exterior that protects it from knocks and scratches while on long business trips. However, it's not perfect, and could still use some refinement in its design.

Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds notebook

There's nothing subtle about the Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds, which is a huge mobile workstation that will have trouble fitting into even the roomiest of laptop bags. It's a notebook that's designed for users of graphics and design programs, who will benefit from the inclusion of a built-in Wacom tablet and — wait for it — a second screen!

Sony VAIO VGN-Z17GN/B notebook

With the VAIO VGN-Z17GN/B notebook, Sony is targeting corporate buyers with an eye for style and a need for speed. It’s a 13.1in laptop that weighs only 1.4kg, yet has plenty of features.

HP Mini 2140

With a bright 10.1in screen, big keys and an ExpressCard/54 slot, the HP Mini 2140 is easy to use and has more functions and capabilities than most netbooks on the market. It's marketed as a netbook for business users, but it doesn't have an unreasonable price tag. In fact, if you don't mind spending close to $1100 for a netbook, this ultraportable laptop is definitely one you need to consider — even if you're not a business user.

TP-Link TL-WR340G 54M Wireless Router

Priced at just $39.95, TP-Link's TL-WR340G 54M Wireless Router is hard to pass up. It has a four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch and an 802.11g wireless access point, and it will do a respectable job of distributing your Internet connection to all the computers and other networked devices in your home.

ASUS Eee PC S101H

The tiny 10.2in ASUS Eee PC S101H netbook makes a fashion statement without resorting floral designs or a blaze of red colouring; it's a champagne-coloured notebook with chrome along the sides and on the hinge, and it has graphite-styled keys. It definitely looks like a high-class product, and for a netbook it has a high price tag. However, it also has one of the more desirable feature lists.

Toshiba Tecra R10 (PTRB3A-001002)

With its silver-coloured magnesium body and thin LED-based screen, the Toshiba Tecra R10 (PTRB3A-001002) is reminiscent of the ultraportable Portege. It's not an altogether out of whack comparison, as the Tecra R10 is very light and slim for a 14.1in notebook. But it's much more powerful than the Portege could ever hope to be, and its combination of portability and power make it an ideal choice for a business user.

Acer Aspire One AOD150

With its burgundy palm rest and lid, the Acer Aspire One AOD150 looks nice; not too flashy and not too dull. It has a good number of features, and it also has the best screen we have ever seen in a netbook, so it gets by on much more than just its good looks. In fact, out of all the netbooks we've tested to date, this is our favourite.

HP Vivienne Tam Special Edition Notebook PC

HP's Vivienne Tam Special Edition Notebook PC is an in-your-face netbook that has one main virtue: chicks dig it. They love the colour, the floral design, the carry pouch, the small size of the unit and the big keys. Do guys dig it? Not so much. But hey, look at the pics and judge for yourself.

Acer Veriton L670G

It's small and inexpensive yet Acer's Veriton L670G is based on an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU, so it has plenty of power for running the applications in your small office or large corporate workplace.

Toshiba Satellite A300 (PSAGCA-09Y01N)

The Toshiba Satellite A300 (PSAGCA-09Y01N) is almost the perfect laptop for home users. It looks good, has a big screen, is comfortable to use, and contains a large array of ports. It's also not a heavy laptop; considering it has a 15.4in screen, its weight of 2.8kg is relatively light. You should be able to cart it to the office or the lecture hall without breaking too much of a sweat.
