Landlines still a must for low-income earners: Telstra

Landline phones may be going out of fashion amongst the well-off, but many on low income still rely on them, according to a study commissioned by Telstra.

Nearly three quarters of people on low income still consider home phones the most important service for job hunting and social support, the report states.

Presenting the findings at the Australian Council of Social Service conference in Canberra today, Telstra group managing director David Quilty said a significant portion of low-income earners rely on Telstra’s bill assistance programs to keep their phones connected.
