Adam Internet diversifies with the launch of AdamTalk

 • 19 October, 2007 09:50

A new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service has been launched by leading SA-based Internet Service Provider Adam Internet, significantly reducing the cost of phone calls for broadband users.

The service is the result of a partnership between Adam Internet and leading wholesale VoIP provider, ISPhone Australasia Pty Limited.

AdamTalk, which is only available to Adam Internet ADSL broadband customers, will provide untimed local and STD calls for as low as 12 cents - up to 60 per cent cheaper than the rates offered by traditional phone carriers.

The move is designed to meet the strong demand for VoIP among consumers and businesses alike, while taking the company a step closer to its vision of becoming a one-stop-shop for its customers’ Internet, voice and video service needs.

Adam Internet Managing Director Scott Hicks said for the past 20 years Adam Internet has built a solid reputation in South Australia, servicing around 35 per cent of the market with dial up and broadband services.

“While we’re performing strongly in traditional Internet service, we’re always looking at ways to diversify our offerings to meet the needs of our customers, and this is perfect for those wanting to reduce their living expenses,” Scott said.

AdamTalk operates via software using either a computer or an existing phone connected to a modem with an adaptor and is no different to a normal fixed line phone, just with cheaper rates and lower monthly fees.

“The Internet and phone bills appear on the one account each month which provides additional cost savings through bundling,” Scott said.

“Customers are also able to dial 000 which allows their address to be located in the event of an emergency, while measures are also in place to reduce the risk of disruption during service failure. Furthermore, the service is still operational regardless of whether the computer is switched on or off.”

AdamTalk incurs a $5 monthly fee with $5 call credit, equating to more than 40 local and national untimed fixed line calls, with free calls to other AdamTalk customers.

“When you compare it to a standard $20 a month line rental plus 30 cent local calls and even higher rates for STD calls, it’s a significant saving,” Scott said.

According to Scott, selecting ISPhone as Adam Internet’s voice supplier was a logical decision.

“ISPhone won out against the competition because it is a like-minded, future-focused technology company. ISPhone is the only national provider with a dedicated point of presence in Adelaide, and like Adam Internet, they care about providing a superior grade service to local users.”

ISPhone Managing Director Gavin McDougal said the partnership with Adam Internet would ensure customers had access to highly robust and reliable voice service.

“At a time when incumbent voice providers are looking to consolidate their services, this partnership and investment illustrates ISPhone and Adam Internet’s commitment to the state,” he said.

Adam Internet is currently developing a VoIP package suitable for business, due to be launched later in the year.
