Spam will soon be off the breakfast menu

<p>Sydney, 16 September 2003 – Spammers will find it harder to clog in-boxes with the launch of Clearswift’s spamActive™ three hourly updates. spamActive increases detection and prevention of unsolicited email at the gateway and now gives updates on newly discovered spam every three hours.</p>
<p>Clearswift, the world leader in managing and securing electronic communications, harvests thousands of examples of spam from global seed email accounts and accumulates these in databases. Spam terms and subject lines are extracted from these global databases and are placed on the Clearswift website for customers to download.</p>
<p>"Everyone hates coming into work and clearing inboxes of spam which has poured in overnight. spamActive works through the day and night, automatically updating email filtering and blocking new spam,” said Chy Chuawiwat, managing director Clearswift Asia Pacific.</p>
<p>“Spammers are continually changing their tactics, trying to bypass email filtering software. The spamActive™ service gives organisations the most up to date list of spam, enabling them to react swiftly and automatically,” he said.</p>
<p>spamActive™ can be configured to download the latest database automatically and update email filtering policies. Incoming emails that match the latest spam profiles immediately trigger the anti-spam policies set by Clearswift customers, effectively blocking unsolicited email, or are marked, allowing the user to delete or move them to a separate inbox folder.</p>
<p>The spamActive™ service is part of Clearswift’s multi-layered approach to spam filtering. At the network layer, organisations should use real time blacklists, anti-relay, domain verification and local block lists. Then at the content layer, organisations should apply textual analysis of content and deploy service feeds that provide regular updates on new spam content patterns. Organisations should also apply policy-based spam filtering based on sender and recipient groups.</p>
<p>spamActive™ is a managed service and is available to Clearswift ENTERPRISEsuite™ and CS MAILsweeper™ for SMTP customers.</p>
