321 Studios announced DVD X Copy series in Australia

Software can create personal backup copies of any disc, protecting valuable, fragile DVD collections

Sydney (October 28, 2003) — 321 Studios, the leader in DVD backup and recovery software, today announced the availability of DVD X Copy Platinum, DVD X Copy Gold, DVD X Copy Xpress and DVD Copy Plus in retail outlets throughout Australia. Each of these four programs can create personal backups of any DVD movie, protecting the user’s valuable, fragile collection.

“The four programs in the DVD X Copy series provide simplicity and power for every DVD collector, whether they’re seeking one-click duplication or complete control of the process, and whether they own a DVD burner or CD burner,” said Rob Semaan, the Sydney-born and raised CEO of 321 Studios, which is headquartered in St Louis, US. “With groundbreaking software from 321 Studios, anyone can protect their DVD collection with personal backups.”

Children, pets and simple accidents can destroy a DVD, preventing its owner from enjoying the movie that it contains. Some dual-layer DVDs have also been affected by “DVD rot,” which is a chemical reaction affecting the information-carrying metallic layer within a disc, and “delamination”, which is the separation of layers. 57 percent of DVD users lose or ruin up to 10 discs each year, according to a 321 Studios survey of 3190 visitors to its web site.
321 Studios’ DVD X Copy series software allows consumers to protect their investment in DVD movies by creating personal backup copies for playback on home DVD players or PCs equipped with DVD drives. The company’s products and policies include strong measures to guard against illegitimate use, including a disclaimer at the beginning of the copied movie, a non-visible watermark in all DVD copies, and a block on making a copy of a copy using DVD X Copy.

As litigation against software innovators continues on a global scale, 321 Studios will strengthen its battle for the public’s right to make “fair use” copies of their digital media using DVD backup and recovery software, leading the fight in the US and UK courts to protect consumers’ rights to make personal backups of legally purchased DVDs. It is 321 Studios position that its breakthrough line of DVD backup software does not does unlawfully aid consumers in infringing copyright privileges associated with material stored in DVD format.

DVD X Copy Xpress lets you backup your entire DVD movie — including menus, trailers and special features — to a single DVD with one-click convenience. Insert a DVD, click Start, and DVD X Copy Xpress will take care of the rest in about 30-45 minutes.

DVD X Copy Gold combines the one-click convenience of DVD X Copy Xpress with the option of burning multi-disc or episodic DVD sets to a single disc.

DVD X Copy Platinum combines all the features of DVD X Copy Gold plus complete control over movie backups. For example, if a user wants a three-hour movie without the special features, trailers and so forth, to fit on one DVD or on two DVDs, they can make that choice. Users can even decide which sections of the movie to compress and what to backup in its original form. DVD X Copy Platinum provides the user with total freedom. It also includes a free copy of 321 Studios’ DVD X Rescue, which recovers lost data, music and movies from DVDs and CDs.

DVD Copy Plus lets users create high-quality backups of their DVD movies using the CD burner they already own and inexpensive CD-R discs. DVD Copy Plus converts DVD movies to VCD, SVCD and DivX format, and creates discs that will play on a DVD player like regular DVDs.
