McAfee, Inc. Delivers Industry's First Multi-Layered Protection Against Growing Risk of Spyware

 • 19 January, 2005 11:11

SYDNEY, Jan. 19, 2005 – McAfee, Inc., the pioneer and worldwide leader of intrusion prevention solutions, today announced its new IntruShield network IPS solution. With the new IntruShield anti-spyware capability, McAfee offers a proactive, multi-layered system and network protection strategy to address the growing concern of spyware in both consumer and corporate environments.

The initial set of McAfee IntruShield anti-spyware signatures provides protection against a broad range of today's most popular potentially unwanted programs including spyware and is designed to recognise and prevent communication from the client portion of the spyware to the backend servers. McAfee will offer ongoing anti-spyware protection for IntruShield by continually releasing additional signature updates as more new threats are identified. The IntruShield spyware protection proactively detects and blocks the activity, communication and propagation of potentially unwanted programs within the network, which provides a beneficial and complimentary overlap with McAfee system protection solutions. The onslaught of spyware and other potentially unwanted programs is a rapidly growing concern for businesses of all sizes, and can severely compromise the integrity of systems, data and applications.

Available for beta testing on January 20, 2005, the McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise Edition Module utilises true on-access scanning to identify, alert, proactively block, and safely eliminate potentially unwanted programs like spyware, adware, dialers, key-loggers, Trojans, and remote access tools. The solution is tightly integrated with the next-generation anti-virus product, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, for enhanced registry, memory and file scanning and cleaning while being centrally managed by a single security management console, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), for the enterprise or McAfee ProtectionPilot for small-to-medium businesses.

Adding to the multi-layered anti-spyware protection is McAfee Foundstone Enterprise and McAfee Secure Content Management (SCM) solutions. McAfee Foundstone Enterprise provides enhanced protection by detecting rogue applications, peer-to-peer file sharing technologies such as eDonkey, Kazaa, Grokster and other potentially unwanted programs. In addition, McAfee SCM solutions can block spyware, adware and dialers based on the comprehensive DAT signature set used by the solutions. Collectively, all four of McAfee's multi-layered system and network solutions provide customers with the industry's most advanced and comprehensive protection against spyware and other potentially unwanted programs.

In addition to McAfee IntruShield's network IPS coverage, McAfee spyware protection spans multiple product lines including McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise Edition Module, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, McAfee Secure Content Management solutions and McAfee Foundstone technologies. By offering the most comprehensive suite of system and network defences, McAfee allows customers to deploy multiple, critical layers of protection to safely block and eliminate an array of potentially unwanted programs, including spyware, adware, dialers, keyloggers, password crackers and remote-control programs.
