The federal government’s Digital Transformation Office (DTO) has announced a national recruitment drive to recruit design, research and technology specialists to create public services.
Communications minister, Malcolm Turnbull said on Thursday the DTO will recruit around 20 developers, designers, researchers and product managers to develop digital services.
“Government services don’t face competition in the traditional sense but that doesn’t mean they should be immune from the disruptive technologies that are having an impact right across the economy,” Turnbull said in a statement.
“The DTO needs to adopt an agile, startup-like culture so it’s important that we recruit people with the right mix of skills and attitude to speed up the transformation of government services.”
The government has allocated more than $254.7 million over the next four years to build the first stage of its digital transformation agenda with $95.4 million being allocated to the DTO.
The DTO is aiming to remove the complexity around government services. Its first task is to establish a single digital identity program for accessing government services. This will ensure citizens no longer need to complete separate log on processes for each government service.
