The Northern Territory government has signed a $55 million, three-year contract with NEC to support 20,000 users across the territory.
Under the end-user computing contract, NEC Australia will provide on-site and remote support for all desktop, laptops, mobile devices, file and print services, email services, desktop application management and asset management.
NEC Australia will support NT government end users in all government offices except for schools, which are already supported by NEC in a separate contract with the NT Department of Education.
The contract includes an option to extend the arrangement for an additional two years.
For the contract, NEC has brought in partners including Vertical Technology Group, an NT-based ICT provider with its own fleet of aircraft to deliver remote services; Red Centre Technology Partners for on-site service delivery in Alice Springs; NT Technology for service delivery in Nhulunbuy and Katherine; and Leading Edge for service delivery in Tennant Creek.
About one-third of the contract’s value will be distributed among these local partners, NEC said.
The contract follows a recently expired four-year deal between NEC and the NT government for desktop and servers. Under that contract, NEC had deployed 8000 desktops and laptops and assisted the NT government in upgrading 16,500 workstations to Windows 7 as Microsoft ended support for Windows XP.
“We’ve successfully delivered a number of services and key projects to the NT Government over the past decade and look forward to building on these successes in the future,” said Trent Oliver, NEC Australia manager for NT.
In May 2012, NEC Australia acquired CSG’s Technology Solutions business, making NEC the largest ICT employer in the Northern Territory with more than 220 staff.
