Extreme's Software Defined Architecture is designed to provide unified management, application analytics and data center orchestration for virtualized enterprise, cloud service provider and high performance computing and Big Data deployments. It comprises Extreme switches and SDN software applications and controllers, including the company's OpenDaylight-based OneController software.

New elements of the Software Defined Architecture lineup include the Summit X670-G2 switch, which is a 1RU top-of-rack device configured with 48 or 72 10G Ethernet ports. In addition to density, it features 600ns latency.
Another addition is the Purview Application Sensor. This appliance is intended to scale and ease deployment of Extreme's existing Purview analytics application.
New partners include Sanbolic, A10 Networks and NetOptics IXIA. Sanbolic provides software-defined storage and application scale software for hyperconverged systems to improve availability, load balancing and performance of virtualized applications.
A10 Networks provides application delivery control for data center interconnect. Integration with Extreme SDN products is intended to distribute threat response to improve data security.
NetOptics IXIA enhances Purview through inter-VM traffic analysis on hypervisor hosts.
Other partners in Extreme's Software Defined Architecture stable include Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, and AirWatch by VMware.
In addition to Summit switches, Purview software and OneController, the Software Defined Architecture product portfolio includes Extreme's OneFabric Control Center and OneFabric Connect SDN API.
Extreme also announced that its Ethernet switches are available under Lenovo's High-Performance Computing portfolio.
