Limited storage capacity was causing a backlog of requests for the IT department at Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) Queensland. This made it difficult for IT staff to respond to demands and limited the introduction of new services to its 30 Queensland sites and 250 sub-branches.
After considering a number of solutions, RSL Queensland IT manager Jason Marles decided to implement a NetApp agile hybrid aggregate offering.

“The flash infrastructure has removed infrastructure bottlenecks by providing high volume, cost effective storage,” he said.
“Now, when a department makes a request we can respond almost instantaneously. This has enabled us to roll out a range of long standing projects that have been on the wish list for years.”
For example, Marles and his team recently implemented a centralised membership database and intranet.
The new database means that the workload associated with updating member records can be shared across multiple RSL Queensland teams whilst improving the accuracy of the information.
“We are now working towards centralising all of the individual databases in our branch offices to ensure that current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force [ADF] can access the same level of emergency accommodation, pensions, advocacy and welfare services at each location in Queensland,” he said.
According to Marles, this will increase the level of service and convenience to those members seeking assistance.
