Optus has won a contract with the NSW Department of Finance and Services to provide managed mobility services, replacing Telstra as the provider for its mobile services.
The telco will provide helpdesk, mobile device management, mobile voice and mobile data services to agencies that use ServiceFirst, the NSW government’s shared service provider.
The contract will include the use of smartphones, tablets and laptops on a fixed monthly fee for local, national, mobile and SMS services.
Andrew Constance, Minister for Finance and Services, said providing cost effective mobile services to public servants is vital to improving their mobility.
“The structure of services and pricing in the contract mean the service will be significantly simplified and service costs will be reduced by up to a massive 50 per cent,” he said in a statement.
“The new contract will also lead to better connectivity and mobility for agency staff. More agencies are using smartphones and tablets to allow their staff to work anywhere and anytime. This enhances customer service and drives productivity.”
The agreement will be reviewed in 2015.
