NEW 3COM DIRECTORS GIVEN REMIT TO DRIVE SALES AND GROW MARKET

Australia, 2 March, 2004 – 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) has appointed two new directors to head up its attack on the Australian and New Zealand enterprise networking market, effective immediately

Mr. David Richardson, enterprise director, and Mr. Simon Edwards, channel director, will lead 3Com’s sales operations in ANZA, each with specific focus on strengthening their respective business segments to build momentum for the company regionally.

Ms. Stanimira Koleva, managing director of 3Com Asia Pacific, commented: “The appointment of David and Simon completes the restructuring process which we began last year to further drive our ANZA operations. Re-focusing on the enterprise market, we need strong leaders with the necessary skills, contacts and industry expertise to build ties and create business-winning opportunities. After a considerable search period, we have found that David is the right person in this area.”

She continued: “The channel is our lifeblood, which is why Simon has been charged with fostering relationships and improving performance in this area. Simon’s knowledge of 3Com distribution and logistics globally will ensure local operations are as streamlined as possible.”

Steering the enterprise ship
With over a decade of service in the Royal Australian Navy, David comes to 3Com with a history of navigating through ever-changing situations. His mission is to establish 3Com as an enterprise heavyweight, ensuring the market understands that there is a real alternative in the market.

“Local business needs to know 3Com is back in the enterprise space in a big way. We have one of the broadest portfolios of high-performance voice and data networking products, and are able to deliver them to customers at a much decreased total cost of ownership. Looking at our sales pipeline and growing list of converted prospects, I can also say we have the credentials to affirm ourselves as a serious contender for enterprise tenders of all sizes,” David said.

Before joining 3Com, David was regional director, South Pacific, for Molex Premise Networks. He also has held leadership positions at NetStar International where he was vice president of major accounts based in Shanghai and Hong Kong. This role afforded David first-hand experience with an emerging technology manufacturing industry in the region.

David attributes much of his success to high quality relationships and true two-way communication with customers, partners and staff. By taking the time to listen to customers’ concerns, he has developed a deep understanding for the complete scope of technology challenges that many senior IT staff experience every day.

Channel direction
New channel director Simon Edwards states that he will “live and die by the performance of the volume channel.” His short-term goal is to ensure channel relationships are structured in the best possible way to meet customer needs. Implementing lines of communication to create product awareness will ensure partners and end-users are aware of product and service offerings. This will support Simon’s long-term goal of creating the right channel to deliver 3Com products.

“The latter part of 2003 was spent bedding down our channel relationships,” Simon said. “However, ongoing enhancements in areas such as training and support will further enable us to take advantage of current market optimism. We will also be looking to build on our strengths in government and education, while targeting additional key areas of opportunity in the region.

“The 3Com model is channel-centric and we aim to focus on our partners now more than ever, with David and I working together to ensure networking in Australia and New Zealand is not a one-horse race.”

Prior to being handed the ANZA channel reins, Simon was International sales operations manager for 3Com Europe. Edwards has also held senior business analysis and financial control positions within 3Com, giving him a global knowledge of what makes the company tick.

“Both gentlemen know the ANZA market isn’t easy to please,” concluded Stanimira. They also know that they have the full support of the global 3Com team in their mission.”
