The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has extended its IT services agreement with Unisys for another five years in a deal valued at $104.1 million.
The contract runs through to June 2018 and now includes support for the Department’s midrange equipment and storage. Unisys has provided DIAC with IT services since 2007.
According to Unisys Asia Pacific global managed services vice president, Scott Whyman, DIAC’s IT needs over the past two years have evolved due to increased mobility in the workplace and data security requirements.
In response, DIAC and Unisys have consolidated the department’s five data centres down to two, rolled out Windows 7 to 8000 users in 2011 and implemented security measures which allow DIAC staff access to secure emailing, editing and storage.
In addition, Unisys provides IT service desk support for staff in Australia and 60 overseas locations. Whyman said that it handles 25,000 calls per month.
“Prior to Unisys operating the service desk in 2007, there was no single point of contact for IT related issues,” he said in a statement.
“We have increased the proportion of first call resolutions by the service desk, improving customer satisfaction and effectiveness.”
He added that the vendor has also helped the department improve website performance and reduce spam emails.
