Beam cleared to launch satellite terminals

World Reach (ASX:WRR) subsidiary Beam Communications has launched a new line of satellite terminals, after receiving approval from partner Inmarsat.

The company last year signed a deal to develop products to accompany Inmarsat's satellite phone services.

Beam's products, the Terra 400 and 800, will be offered to customers including subscribers to Inmarsat's new IsatPhone Link, which targets the oil and gas, mining, construction, utilities and aid markets.

World Reach announced that the Terra 400, a terminal allowing the use of standard telephone handsets in the satellite service, began shipping on Friday.

The 800 model, which includes a handset speaker phone and SMS functionality, will ship later this month.

Beam earlier this year also launched a piracy alert and emergency communications system for ships.

WRR shares stayed still at $0.003 on Tuesday.
