Aust market up for fifth straight session

The Australian stock market closed higher for its fifth straight session on Friday.

The All Ordinaries Index grew 46.1 points to 4840.3, while the S&P/ASX 200 gained 43 points to close at 4742.6 points.

Every industry sector also closed higher. The energy sector gained by far the most ground - 354.2 points - followed by materials, consumer staples and utilities.

By contrast, the IT sector was relatively weak, gaining just 8.8 points to 585.9, as was telecom services, up 13 points to 923.6.

The Australian dollar grew 0.16% against the greenback, and was worth US$1.0226 at time of writing.
