pieNETWORKS wins first banking sector deal

Internet kiosk operator pieNETWORKS (ASX:PIE) has revealed it has won the first order for its Hotspot Webphones from the the financial services sector.

The Police and Nurses Credit Society has ordered an initial three of pieNETWORKS' joint internet kiosk and payphones, which will be installed in various branches.

The Society plans to use the webphones to provide its customers with on-premises internet banking, linking the phone to customer representatives at the credit union.

Services to be offered include bill payment, account balance checking and funds transfer.

PieNETWORKS managing director Campbell smith said the company is also in negotiations with a number of other financial organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

He said he felt the financial services sector could prove as important as the telecom sector for the Hotspot Webphone product.

Telstra (ASX:TLS) started its own four month trial of the kiosks in late November.

PIE shares jumped 4.76% during Monday's trading to $0.022.
