IRI launches web-based PC power management tool

Computer systems management company Integrated Research (ASX:IRI) has launched PowerMinder, its new agentless PC power management suite.

The solution is targeted at large enterprises, managed services providers and government agencies, as well as small to medium businesses. It aims to help organisations reduce their IT power consumption, energy costs and carbon footprint.

In a ploy aimed at keeping deployment and management simple, PowerMinder is 100% web-based, and does not require software to be installed on end user PCs.

PowerMinder is based on, and uses IP from, Integrated Research's existing Prognosis performance monitoring software.

Integrated Research CEO Mark Brayan said the development of PowerMinder is part of the company's long-term strategy.

“We want to leverage our Prognosis technologies to create new solutions for our customers that address key business issues,” he said.

Gartner forecasts that the percentage of IT budgets spent on energy costs will jump to 50% over the next three years, and PCs and monitors account for 39% of ICT-related energy consumption.

And up to 50% of global organisations are projected to implement a PC power management solution by 2012, Brayan added, meaning there should be strong demand for PowerMinder.
