2degrees launches 3G services

New Zealand mobile operator 2degrees has launched 3G services, and a range of bundled data plans to go along.

The company, which today turned one year old, said it would offer data plans in 50MB, 512MB, 20GB and 10GB packs, lasting between 30 to 90 days depending on the size of the pack purchased.

According to 2degrees CEO Eric Hertz, this is the first time mobile data bundles are available in New Zealand that last for longer than 30 days.

“We want to provide consumers with as much choice as possible,” he said.

The 3G network is being built in co-operation with Huawei, and should provide real-world average speeds of between 800kbps and 1400kbps, Hertz added.

The 50Mbps data pack is available for NZ$6 ($4.90).
