Telecom NZ to shutter CDMA network in 2012

Telecom New Zealand (ASX:TEL) has revealed it plans to shut down its CDMA mobile network in mid-2012.

Roaming services on the network will be closed down on October 28 this year, while domestic data services via EVDO will be shuttered a month later.

Data services will continue to be offered after this cutoff, but not at mobile broadband speeds.

The company said it had already seen considerable migration to its new XT mobile network, which in any case offers better quality while roaming overseas and using mobile broadband in NZ.
