Corporate regulator ASIC has published a new guide for retail stock market investors, titled 'Investing between the flags.’
The guide sets out the basic principles of investing, suggesting people stick to a sound plan, spreading investments between different asset classes to mitigate the danger of going bankrupt.
“Reading this guide will help put retail investors on the path to investing more wisely. However, investing is like many things in life – rewarding but not free of risk,” ASIC chairman Tony D’Aloisio said.
“When you go swimming at the beach, you will reduce the risk of drowning if you swim between the flags, similarly, when you invest, you will reduce the risk of losing your money if you adopt the investing behaviours identified in this guide.”
The guide is free, with a .pdf version available at www.fido.gov.au – ASIC’s consumer and investor website.
