ACMA seeks views on mobile phone jammer laws

Communications regulatory body ACMA has launched a discussion paper reviewing the regulations surrounding mobile phone jammers, and is seeking comments on the issue.

ACMA said the paper also includes background on a proposed trial of mobile phone jammers at the Lithgow Correctional Centre.

“It is often not appreciated, but there are important issues involved in weighing up the benefits and disadvantages of allowing jamming of mobile telephone networks,” ACMA chairman Chris Chapman said.
