Coles has cancelled its latest fuel discount promotion at the behest of competition regulator the ACCC.
The company had intended to offer discounts of 40 cents per litre for shoppers who spent more than $300 in a single session.
The offer also included a discount of 25 cents on purchases above $200 and 10 cents on purchases above $100. The promotion would have applied until October 29.
But the ACCC expressed concerns to Coles executives over the new promotion, prompting them to pull the offer.
“There is a balance to be found between providing consumers with discounts [and] repeated offers which might have a deeper impact on competition in the long term,” the regulator said in a statement.
