Hooker founder's grandson buys back company for $82m

Financial services provider Suncorp-Metway (ASX:SUN) has sold the Hooker Corporation to to an heir of the founder of the real estate business.

Suncorp has sold the business to Leslie Janusz Hooker – the grandson and namesake of business founder Leslie Hooker – for $82 million, the company announced today.

The sale includes both the LJ Hooker real estate franchise and mortgage broking businesses.

“It has long been an ambition of mine to reconnect with the business my grandfather founded and to be part of its future development and growth,” Hooker said.

Hooker aims to continue the practice of expanding the business into the Asia-Pacific region, he said.
