Suncorp Bank is to roll out an overhauled mobile website by July 2013 in response to customer demand for a smartphone and tablet-friendly site.
Suncorp Group eCommerce and internet banking specialist, Simon Clarke, told delegates at the recent BankTech conference that according to customer research it conducted last year, many of its customers were accessing the PC-optimised website on their mobiles or tablets. However, the design of the website meant it was hard to read and navigate.
“This site will be designed to know what type of device you are using, such as a smartphone or tablet, and render the [website] page on the fly to show you the most appropriate content for the device you’re using,” he said.
For example, if the customer accesses the website on their smartphone, they will only see information such as their internet banking login details.
Clarke said that designing the new website was “quite easy”, but it needs to be signed off by all the stakeholders involved with the bank such as the board of directors before it goes live next year.
In addition, the bank is set to unveil an improved version of its iPhone and Android Suncorp Bank App by early August.
Based on Apple App Store and Google Play user feedback, he said the bank would cut down the level of banking services information and retain essential information such as the customer's balance.
According to Clarke, the bank has had 55,000 downloads of its Suncorp Bank App since it was released in December 2011.
