Transactions using Facebook have proved to be popular with users of the Commonwealth Bank's mobile payment app for iOS, Kaching, the bank has revealed.
"While we knew Facebook would be an important feature to offer our customers, it’s an interesting growth area and indicates a distinct shift towards how Australians are seeking out new ways of making payments," CBA chief marketing and online officer, Andy Lark, wrote in a blog entry. "It certainly broadens the mobile channels available and shows just how important it is to keep technology evolving for customers."
Facebook is the second most popular transaction method, accounting for 10 per cent of transfers. It still lags behind mobile to mobile payments, which account for 85 per cent of transactions with the Kaching app.
CommBank Kachingm has been downloaded more 110,000 times from the iTunes App Store since the app's launch in December last year.
The app includes peer-to-peer transaction support and is Near Field Communications (NFC) enabled. In conjunction with an 'iCarte' case, iPhone owners can use the free app to make contactless payments using NFC and MasterCard PayPass terminals. None of the current iPhone models, including the recently launched iPhone 4S, including an inbuilt NFC chip.
