Managing a global workforce is never easy. Apart from the obvious geographical barriers, managers and employees must also contend with cultural and communications issues.
Joe Druoin, CIO at global recruitment and placement organisation, Kelly Services, says being able to engage a global workforce and create a social workforce is an obvious play. Speaking at the Dreamforce 2011 keynote in San Francisco, Druoin said that being able to ride the coat tails of a vendor such as Salesforce is providing the company with a competitive advantage.
“We kind of tuck in behind the draft off,” he said, referring to a range of product and service announcements made by Salesforce CEO, Marc Benioff, at the event.
Kelly Services’ portfolio includes global outsourcing and consulting across recruitment, human resource management and vendor management. In Australia, Kelly Scientific Resources places science professionals across a range of industries.
“The whole idea of leveraging the power of a social enterprise… letting conversations happen in ways that it has never happened before has really turned things around for us.
Kelly Service rolled out Chatter a year ago. Today, 9000 people use the application. The organisation also uses Force.com to build both internal and customer-facing applications to extend its workforce management solutions to customers.
Most recently, Druoin’s team developed the Talent Project iPad application. Not only has it provided a customer application for Apple’s hugely popular device, it has had the added benefit of promoting IT within the business.
“We thought let's differentiate. Let's take a more consumer facing approach to this app,” Druoin told delegates.
“Force.com has helped us create an attractive user experience as a first step to the app world. We can take it in a hundred different directions. The foundation is there.”
