Web hosting provider ,Netregistry, has admitted that some customers of Distribute.IT's subsidiary ,Click 'n Go, who were acquired recently have decided to look around for other providers.
The company has also retired the Click 'n Go brand as there was damage to the system following the server infrastructure hack and challenges involved in bringing it over to Netregistry.
All Click 'n Go customers were provided with login details to the Distribute.IT registry systems that Netregistry technicians had restored.
Affected companies would be placed on its secure Cloud clustered, load-balanced infrastructure system which was housed at the Global Switch data centre.
Chief executive officer, Larry Bloch, told Computerworld Australia that Click 'n Go customers were quite exposed to the server compromise and there were a "significant" number of website customers who had found hosting elsewhere with either Netregistry or other providers.
"In terms of the domain name customers there has not been that much leakage so we expect to retain the bulk of those customers," Bloch said.
"It's been less than a week since the acquisition so we don't know how many customers are left in the Click 'n Go and Distribute.IT brand but the Distribute.IT resellers are a very loyal bunch and that speaks to the service they have received over the years."
According to Bloch, the company's approach has been to provide as much flexibility to customers and allowing them to move to other providers if they chose to.
"We hope to demonstrate that we are the kind of company that would not get into the difficulties that Distribute.IT got into as we're a much larger company with greater resources," Bloch said.
"We felt [with Click 'N Go] we might as well take a quick decision and assist those customers to move to another area within the Netregistry group."
