Former NBN Co construction boss joins UXC

Patrick Flannigan has joined the Aussie ICT consultancy firm on a "full-time advisory basis"

Following his recent resignation as head of construction for NBN Co, Patrick Flannigan has joined Australian ICT consultancy firm, UXC (ASX:UXC).

In a statement to the ASX, UXC managing director, Cris Nicolli, said Flannigan would be joining the company, reporting to him on a full-time advisory basis in a move to support the company’s plan to decouple its IT and Field Solutions business arms.

“I am excited about having Mr Flannigan join UXC, and feel that the opportunity of working with an innovative and agile organisation such as UXC has presented Mr Flannigan with a compelling reason to join the team,” Nicolli said in a statement.

“We continue to be on schedule with our plan and the dual track process to decouple the IT and Field Solutions businesses with the release of the Information Memorandums for the Field Solutions Businesses.”

Flannigan’s departure came days after the network wholesaler scrapped 14 tenders for construction of the fibre aspect of the National Broadband Network (NBN) on the mainland, in favour of closed-door negotiations with a single party. At the time, the company's head of corporate services, Kevin Brown, faced media instead of Flannigan.

An acting head of construction was also appointed following the resignation, with Dan Flemming, formerly the company's general manager of construction, design and planning, stepping into the role.

As reported by Computerworld Australia, analysts warned the resignation could delay the rollout of the NBN and lead to a major cost blowout.

At the time, City Index chief market analyst, Peter Esho, said Flannigan's resignation will not only have a direct impact on the project but the delay could stifle economic investment more broadly.
