Move over printed guide, this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show now has its own iPhone app which includes a live schedule and map information.
Organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, the Easter Show attracts millions of visitors to Sydney's Olympic Park every year. Attractions include carnival rides, livestock judging, country food and produce and, of course, showbags.
2011 is the first year an official mobile application has been developed for the Easter Show, which, in recent years has demonstrated its ability to adopt new technologies.
The iPhone app features interactive maps, daily timetables for events and activities, an itinerary planner and the ability to create a list of your favourite showbags and carnival rides.
The app also includes a competition to win a gold carnival wrist band to ride the Easter Show carnival one day for free.
Developed by Melbourne-based creative digital agency, C2 Media, the iPhone app costs $2.49 from the iTunes App Store.
At TechWorld we took a quick look at the Easter Show iPhone app and found its mapping a location features quite handy, particularly if the show-goer is unfamiliar with Sydney Olympic Park.
While the app does show the events for each day it could easily be more specific about what time specific animal shows are on.
It’s a paid app, but you also get ads served making it a double-dip revenue earner.
Other nice features include easy bookmark events and the ability to search the program by entertainment, animals or competitions.
So far the user reviews posted on the iTunes App Store have rated the Easter Show app well.
The 2011 Sydney Royal Easter Show runs from April 14 to 27 at Sydney Olympic Park.
