As many as 9000 customers of Vodafone Hutchinson Australia (VHA) have signed up to be a part of a class action against the telco, according to the legal firm handling the action, Piper Alderman.
In blog post updating the status of the action, the firm said it was currently requesting further information from class action group members for further information relating to their specific circumstances.
The action claims that Vodafone has seeks to continued to charge customers on its mobile plans when they have experienced calls dropping out, reception issues, and poor data performance.
The action seeks to recover losses suffered by Vodafone's customers over the last three years, plus interest.
“Customers who signed up with Vodafone over the last three years may be entitled to compensation if they were misled into signing contracts or if Vodafone did not live up to its end of the bargain,” the update reads.
The action will likely be aided by a number of blog posts by the telco relating to network reliability issues it has experienced during the past two months.
In the latest post Vodafone pledged to improve its network, announcing it will upgrade or build more than 2,500 base stations during 2011 in a bid to lift reliability and capacity.
