IBM managing director appointed as ambassador

National ICT Careers Week kicks off this month with all states and territories hosting events aimed at 14-19 year olds.

Managing director of IBM Australia, Glen Boreham, has been appointed as ambassador of the event, with the ACS foundation, AIIA and ACDICT.

Penny Coulter from the organising committee said Boreham was suited to the role because of his dedication to the IT industry.

"Mr Boreham has been a committed, high profile advocaate of Careers Week and encouraging young people into careers in the ICT industry, and his appointment as ambassador will give further weight to his inovlment in securing the future of our industry," she said.

With the quest for IT talent becoming increasingly harder for many CIOs, Coulter said the week-long event will attract new interest from teenagers looking at career choices.

"We are confident the activites of ICT Careers Week have contributed to the growth in course enrolments of around 20 per cent over the last two to three years," she said.

ICT Careers Week runs from 26 July to 1 August. Further information can be found on the official website.
