ParraConnect opens door for wireless CBD

Launch set to see Parramatta become interconnected city

Parramatta City Council in Sydney has launched the ParraConnect website; a move intended to connect the City of Parramatta through a wireless CBD proposal and digital small business education initiative.

The project is part of the Council's e-Parra project and was developed over the past six months in conjunction with CivicTEC.

Lord Mayor, Paul Gerrard, said the project focuses on improving communication throughout the city and will affect local businesses of all sizes.

"Digital technologies will continue to impact the way our future communities communicate, interact and operate and it's important people of all ages embrace the opportunities ParraConnect can provide.

"From big business to small business, ParraConnect will work with all members of the community to build a better future," Gerrard said.

The project, which was launched by Senator Stephen Conroy, is aimed at creating a smarter city through community and business involvement, according to Gerrard.

"We've already identified a number of initiatives, such as the introduction of free Wi-Fi hotspot zones around Parramatta, and through continued community involvement, we will continue to work towards becoming a better connected, smarter city," he said.
