Melbourne-based social recruiting service HooJano is offering CIOs who successfully recruit a person through its service up to $1000 in reward money until the end of June.
HooJano uses social networks to find people who are suitably experienced for a role and offers a “middle ground” between specialised recruitment services and blanket job ads, according to CEO Mike Wilkinson.
“For CIOs looking to recruit IT staff HooJano now has some 1200 members in its community, which is substantially skewed to the IT support base,” he said.
“We have about 30,000 contacts in our network that could be candidates.”
It is free to list an ad on HooJano and the hirer offers a “reward” for a successful candidate recommendation.
When the successful candidate is hired, HooJano is paid a commission of 20 per cent of the reward while the referrer gets 95 per cent of the remaining 80 per cent. The rest is earned by the referrer’s “sponsor” – the person who brought the referrer into HooJano.
“It's straightforward to register a role vacancy and I can offer to underwrite the reward for $1000 if you wish to list a role,” Wilkinson said. “There's no listing fee and should you successfully hire through the site, we'll pay the referrer the reward up to that amount on your behalf, but if you really want to stimulate activity, you are welcome to offer a higher amount if you want to chip in too.”
The offer is open if the hire is made before the end of June. Fees are only paid on successfully hiring a candidate so there is no financial risk.
Wilkinson said the two main recruitment options are advertising, which costs about $200, and a recruitment company.
“If an ad doesn’t work – and for small business it doesn’t work about 30 per cent of the time – a recruiter can cost thousands,” he said. “So we are aiming for middle ground in terms of value and a bit more security than a newspaper.”
Wilkinson claims HooJano is the only service of its type in Australia and the application was developed locally from scratch.
The HooJano network connects to public social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn.
“CIOs know when they have a job open and networks are a great way to fill it – people come recommended and have a high success rate – and this system facilitates this behaviour,” Wilkinson said.
“CIOs have their own networks, but this connects them to a bigger network.”
Accounting software vendor MYOB is using HooJano under the Staffsearcher.com.au brand.
For job seekers, Wilkinson said HooJano allows people to connect with large networks and communicate their role.
“It also allows a hiring company to find people and sell the opportunity to that person in exchange of for a reward if they are successful,” he said.
