Symantec October Phishing Report

<p>Here is the October Phishing Report from Symantec. http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/other_resources/b-state_of_phishing_report_10-2009.en-us.pdf This report reviews phishing activity throughout the month of September.</p>
<p>A close observation of phishing tactics in Asia Pacific this past month revealed some interesting highlights:</p>
<p>• Symantec observed a 5% decrease from August in all phishing attacks</p>
<p>• 25 percent of phishing URLs were generated using phishing toolkits; a decrease of 21 percent from August</p>
<p>• Non-English phishing sites decreased by 33 percent compared to August</p>
<p>• More than 110 Web hosting services were used, which accounted for 11 percent of all phishing attacks. Although the proportion remained the same as in August; there was a 3 % decrease in total Web host URLs in September</p>
<p>• Symantec identified an increase in a phishing tactic used in an attack targeting U.S. tax payers</p>
