Micro Focus launches Studio and Server Enterprise Edition v6.0

Enhanced capabilities to further simplify the modernisation and migration of core enterprise applications, bringing dramatic cost reductions

NEWBURY, England, 22 September 2009 — Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), a leading provider of enterprise application modernisation and testing and management solutions, today launched the next generation of its industry-leading Modernisation and Migration Solution, Studio Enterprise Edition and Server Enterprise Edition v6.0. This new release will help large organisations significantly mitigate risk and dramatically reduce costs by modernising and migrating enterprise applications from any proprietary environment, including the mainframe, to Windows, Unix, Linux or z/Linux.

With IT budgets under constant scrutiny, application modernisation and migration is seen by many CIOs as an attractive, low-risk modernisation strategy, allowing companies to avoid spiralling mainframe costs without altering the business logic of core systems. Migrating rather than replacing or re-writing these systems can result in massive cost savings of up to 90 per cent*, while online and batch performance times can be improved by as much as 75 per cent**. Time-to-market of new products and features can be significantly reduced, and business agility and operational efficiency can also be significantly enhanced.

For the first time, Studio EE and Server EE will now include the industry-leading application analysis capabilities of Micro Focus Modernisation Workbench, aiding the CIO’s strategic planning process by providing in-depth information on applications that support the business. In addition, the products now feature a Microsoft Visual Studio-based IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and an ability to easily migrate data from mainframe databases to Microsoft SQL Server. The deployment products fully support 64-bit and are available on all popular Linux, Unix and Windows platforms.

Other enhancements to the new products include improved CICS support (channels and containers) and support for CICS InterSystem Communications. This range of improvements will increase developer productivity and choice of hardware architecture, while further reducing the risk associated with migrating key enterprise applications.

Stuart McGill, CTO, Micro Focus, said: “With this announcement, today we offer the most cost-effective and risk free solution to companies burdened with spiralling maintenance costs but whose core applications are still built upon sound business logic. These new enhancements will deliver improved developer productivity, increased business performance, agility and significantly lower risks than re-writing or replacing applications.”

Micro Focus has long provided the most compelling application migration solution in the industry, emphasised by the more than 600 modernisation and migration projects that have been successfully completed to date. In July 2009, Microsoft awarded Micro Focus their Top Performing Modernization ISV for FY2009. The release of Studio EE and Server EE will continue to build on this industry-leading modernisation and migration solution.
