Department of Building and Housing New Zealand selects Objective

<p>The Department of Building and Housing New Zealand has selected Objective Corporation (ASX: OCL), an established leader and specialist provider of proven content, collaboration and process management solutions, to design and implement a solution to manage its information, knowledge and records as an important strategic asset.</p>
<p>The Department of Building and Housing was established in 2004 to bring together people and functions from across the government to provide a whole-of-sector approach to New Zealand’s built environment. The Department’s goal is that “the people of New Zealand have access to quality homes and buildings that meet their needs, reflect our environment and contribute to a sustainable New Zealand”.</p>
<p>The Department is responsible for:</p>
<p>• administering building and housing sector legislation and its associated work programmes;</p>
<p>• regulating the building sector and rental housing sector;</p>
<p>• delivering effective information, advice and dispute resolution services;</p>
<p>• and providing policy advice to the government on the building and housing sectors.</p>
<p>The Department currently has approximately 500,000 electronic documents, increasing in size by approximately 10% per annum. It also has an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 business related emails and 200,000 paper-based documents.</p>
<p>The Objective solution will be used to support the growth of the Department’s knowledge base and assist in the dissemination of information across the Department, as well as gathering and collating information that will enable well-informed policy advice and operational decisions.</p>
<p>Approximately 400 Department staff will use Objective. The solution will be integrated with some existing and new business applications, and deployed across all Department desktop computers and laptops.</p>
<p>Objective will primarily be used to manage the creation, storage, retrieval and retention of all electronic documents and records to establish a centralised repository of the Department’s entire corporate, business and customer information.</p>
<p>Once implemented the solution is expected to support the Department’s business operations and legislative requirements by:</p>
<p>• automating the management of key business information and records;</p>
<p>• providing workflow and tracking capability for key Ministerial servicing business processes including Official Information Act, Privacy Act and Ministerial requests;</p>
<p>• providing business systems with additional document version control and record keeping functionality;</p>
<p>• managing the integrity of information, knowledge and records as an important strategic asset;</p>
<p>• and facilitating and providing an evidence base for ensuring statutory compliance (Public Records Act 2005).</p>
<p>Mr Mike Winiata, Chief Advisor Information, Department of Building and Housing said: “We needed an enterprise solution that would manage our entire information life cycle, integrate with existing and new business applications, and support the Department in meeting its statutory compliance obligations under the Public Records Act 2005.”</p>
