Network Appliance Continues to Deliver Simplicity and Innovation to the Enterprise

 • 02 December, 2003 14:20

Expands unified storage portfolio, enhances gateway solutions and deepens key partnerships.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELASE.
Sydney – December 2nd 2003.

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) today continued to build upon its strategy of solving enterprise customer challenges for storage consolidation, data centre operations, business continuance and distributed enterprise applications, extending the company’s leadership position in making Storage Grid architectures a reality for enterprise customers.

Storage Grids offer rapid and simple scalability of capacity, performance, availability, quality of service and/or connection protocols on demand; a unified view and management of all corporate data surpassing today’s limited virtualisation approaches; and optimised performance for remote data access in distributed enterprises.

Today’s new product and solution announcements enhance the NetApp Storage Grid vision with powerful offerings designed for real-world enterprise data challenges.

“Over a year ago, we stated that not all data is created equal,” said Dan Warmenhoven, CEO of Network Appliance, referring to the company’s October 1st, 2002, launch event, at which it outlined the NetApp vision and strategy for “The evolution of storage” and unveiled the industry’s first unified storage systems.

“Over the past year we have helped and listened to enterprise customers who realise that managing, storing, accessing and protecting different categories of data are critical components of their overall data management strategy. These customers have asked for solutions that offer tighter enterprise application integration and more centralised management for all types of data regardless of platform. Today’s announcements and our evolving vision address customer pain points associated with classes of data and help solidify the future foundation of enterprise data infrastructures.

Our storage management and data protection solutions and our deep partnerships with other industry leaders marry the highest possible performance with the simplicity and innovation that only Network Appliance can deliver for next generation grid computing and its powerful data complement: the Storage Grid.”

New Solutions at a Glance
* The NetApp FAS980 and FAS980c are the newest members of the NetApp FAS900 platform, offering greater capacity, higher scalability and dramatic performance enhancements. The NetApp FAS980 and FAS980c allow customers to deploy mission-critical applications such as database, CRM and ERP while meeting their demand for easy-to-manage solutions that consolidate existing SAN or NAS infrastructures.

* NetApp gFiler™ now supports unified NAS and SAN consolidation for an expanded set of storage environments, particularly IBM storage system platforms. NetApp gFiler brings unique storage management tools to installed SAN environments enabling customers to introduce IP storage benefits into the data centre while protecting their Fibre Channel SAN investment. Replete with powerful new software such as newly announced SnapMover™, gFiler is poised as the industry’s most robust storage gateway for heterogeneous storage environments.

* The new NetApp NearStore® R200 storage system and an enhanced version of SnapVault™ software together help customers better protect their valuable data, maintain uptime and dramatically lower time-to-recovery with maximum flexibility, performance and simplicity, while reducing management costs.

* NetApp announced deeper and more strategic partnerships with Cisco, FileNet and VERITAS to address a variety of data management, information life cycle management (ILM), backup and recovery and compliance/retention issues central to enterprise customers today.

* NetApp also announced the integration of RAID-DP (double-disk parity) into its full line of enterprise storage systems, offering customers increased data protection in the event of multiple storage-related disk failure or error scenarios. RAID-DP is the industry’s most cost-effective and easy to implement solution for ensuring higher reliability for enterprise data failure and recovery in heterogeneous environments.
