MSPs Seeing Green with New Kaseya Module

 • 18 June, 2008 11:20

Kaseya, a global provider of information technology (IT) automation software for IT solution providers and public and private sector IT organisations, has introduced its Kaseya User State Management (KUSM) module.

The new technology gives managed service providers (MSPs) and IT professionals the ability to remotely manage desktops, including powering them down when not in use. In addition, the new module delivers an automated desktop migration solution and enables the definition and deployment of group profiles; providing the tools necessary to further integrate power management policies into Kaseya’s advanced systems management console.

Leveraging technology acquired through the purchase of Versora in June of 2007, the Kaseya User State Management (KUSM) module integrates into the Kaseya IT Automation Framework, making tasks such as providing reporting, backup and deploying user accounts, application settings, user settings and system settings manageable remotely and transparently from a single point.

“With the integration of Versora’s technology, we are very pleased with the rich feature capabilities available through Kaseya User State Management” said Tim Dickinson, Regional Manager – Australia and New Zealand. “By providing power management capabilities, Vista migration, configuration and deployment of policies and desktop standards, our customers see improved productivity, greater control over user policies and configurations while efficiently reducing their carbon footprint.”

Benefits of Kaseya’s User State Management module include:

• Automated desktop migration of user settings on operating systems, hardware or application upgrades
• Contributes to “Green IT” initiatives by supporting Intel® vPro™ Technology
• Definition and deployment of standard corporate policies and profiles to fit the needs of the organisation
• Definition and management of desktop standard settings and configuration of a group of machines specific to individual organisations or groups of organizations
• Ability to restore machine account information and user settings from the backup
• Preserve user customisations and machine “personalities”
• Maintain consistency across the organisation while enforcing corporate standards

“Kaseya’s ability to integrate power management policies with the rest of the systems management framework gives us the ability to efficiently monitor, maintain, backup, secure and now regulate power of any computer—regardless of its physical location or whether it is in use, in sleep mode or turned off,” said Susan Labandibar, president and CEO, Tech Networks of Boston. “This powerful and complete systems management framework will allow us to provide proactive managed services at an affordable price point while continuing to keep an eye on power consumption and the environment.”

Green Computing
Implementing KUSM combined with Intel® vPro™ technology allows IT professionals and MSPs to execute power management without compromising system management; increasing productivity and contributing to energy conservation. Through this functionality, the user is able to remotely power off computers and promote energy efficiency during non-productive hours, then power on to conduct routine off hour IT tasks. By automating IT processes, implementing best practices and providing consistent customer service levels, even while going green, the user can wake up an out-of-band PC or laptop to perform standard IT tasks remotely.

Policy Management
Through its Policy Management feature, KUSM provides the user with the ability to define and deploy various sets of corporate policies and profiles - such as power settings and drive and printer mappings - to fit the needs of the organizdation.

User Settings
Along with standard organisational settings, KUSM’s fully customizable user settings allow for a higher level of productivity and user satisfaction. These individual settings can be backed up, restored and migrated on a recurring scheduled basis. Some of the supported user settings include accessibility, wallpaper, screen saver, date and time, regional settings, keyboard and mouse, dialup, networking, sharepoints, sounds and file security.
