SYDNEY, Australia -- March 5, 2004 -- Being named to FORTUNE's America's Most Admired Company list once endorses a company's strength in the market. Winning the recognition twice demonstrates its ability to maintain excellence over time. Winning the honor for a third consecutive year solidifies that company's position as the undisputed market leader. StorageTek® (Storage Technology Corporation, NYSE:STK), the storage services and solutions expert, has been ranked No. 1 for the third year in a row in the computer peripheral category on FORTUNE's 2004 America's Most Admired Companies list.

"This recognition is a testament to our customers and employees who have helped make StorageTek the successful company it is today," said Pat Martin, StorageTek chairman, president and CEO. "We have worked to build a market leading company that provides data storage solutions that address the complex information lifecycle management needs of businesses.

"We're proud to be named by FORTUNE as one of America's Most Admired Companies. And even more honored to be anointed by our peers as the leader in our category for the third straight year," said Martin. "In the year ahead, we look forward to continuing the level of excellence that customers and competitors alike have come to expect."

StorageTek once again beat out its competitors in the computer peripheral category including Lexmark International, Maxtor, Symbol Technologies and EMC. StorageTek claimed the most admired spot, and beat the competition with its highest overall score yet. In the categories for all computers companies, only Microsoft scored better.

FORTUNE's 2004 America's Most Admired Companies list, which was unveiled in the March 8 issue, is decided by 10,000 executives, directors and analysts who vote for the companies they most admire based on innovativeness, employee talent, use of corporate assets, corporate responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long term investment value, and quality of products and services. Within each of the 64 industry categories, competitors are asked to rank companies within their category based on their knowledge of each company's performance in the eight individual areas.

StorageTek concluded 2003 on a high note by reporting revenue growth for the sixth straight quarter and increasing earnings for 14 straight quarters. The company improved productivity, maintained strong cost controls, adhered to solid management disciplines and produced a healthy cash flow.
