FileNet sets new performance standard for Business Process Management

SYDNEY—March 12, 2004—FileNet Corporation, the leading provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, has announced that the FileNet Business Process Manager (BPM) suite has achieved exceptional levels of throughput and price performance through a benchmarking test conducted and validated by Doculabs. Doculabs, Inc. is a leading technology-consulting firm that focuses on information technology.

The recently published performance validation report showed that the FileNet BPM suite was able to achieve a transaction rate of more than 6.3 million transactions per hour, which FileNet believes should give enterprises the confidence to deploy FileNet BPM for the most demanding application requirements. This performance was achieved using a workgroup server configuration to simulate more accurately real-world customer environments.

In order to demonstrate accurately the performance characteristics of FileNet’s BPM technology, the testing was designed to show the solution’s performance over different types of process steps—including both automated steps and steps requiring human interaction. All tests were conducted on a standard hardware platform intended to be characteristic of what would be placed in a typical customer environment.

“The FileNet Business Process Manager suite achieved an unprecedented level of performance, dramatically raising the bar for BPM providers,” said Bill Chambers, Principal Analyst with Doculabs, Inc. “FileNet delivers enterprise class performance with a compellingly low total cost of ownership, making FileNet Business Process Manager ideal for today’s competitive business environment.”

Also cited in the report is that FileNet Business Process Manager was able to achieve a price-to-performance ratio that results in an overall lower total cost of ownership. With a modest 8 CPU server, FileNet BPM was able to achieve sustainable, enterprise-class performance on a workgroup-class server platform. A similar test observed by Doculabs showed that FileNet BPM delivered an impressive 10.5 million transactions an hour on a 24 CPU server – demonstrating broad scalability options.

“We believe this report further validates the FileNet Business Process Manager as a true market leading product in the business process management arena,” said James Rae, FileNet’s Managing Director for Australia and News Zealand. “As proven in this Doculabs report, FileNet BPM’s outstanding performance can enable FileNet systems to quickly scale to meet customers’ high volume enterprise business requirements with a modest hardware investment. We believe this delivers tremendous value to our customers who are constantly being challenged to deliver greater levels of productivity and performance at a lower cost. ”
