StoreVault and Virtual Iron Deliver Cost-Effective, Easy-to-Use Virtual Infrastructure for Mid-Market Organisations

Complementary Approach Accelerates Benefits of Server and Storage Virtualisation

SYDNEY, Australia – April 8, 2008 —NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) and Virtual Iron Software (www.virtualiron.com), today announced that NetApp® StoreVault™ storage solutions are now certified for Virtual Iron’s server virtualisation software. StoreVault joins the other Virtual Iron certified products in the NetApp family, namely FAS and V-Series. The combined solutions deliver comprehensive server and storage virtualisation capabilities to mid-market organisations to help them simplify disaster recovery, streamline test and development environments, and optimise system utilisation. They also set a new standard in virtualisation technology, with unprecedented features and capabilities at a cost that had previously been unavailable to customers in the mid-market segment.

One company already benefiting from the combined solution is Baltimore, Maryland-based law firm Goodell DeVries Leech and Dann LLP. After just two months of using Virtual Iron and StoreVault together, the 130 person firm is already experiencing benefits well beyond reduced hardware and maintenance of old, under-utilised equipment. As a single office, the firm utilises several different back-up techniques. While secure, it also makes data access very difficult. Using Virtual Iron and StoreVault for business continuity, the law firm can now pull saved images and have systems back up and running in minutes instead of days.

“Business continuity and fast recoverability are two of the primary reasons we moved to virtualisation,” said David Roden, Director of Technology for law firm Goodell DeVries Leech and Dann LLP. “To truly gain those benefits requires that our server virtualisation and iSCSI storage solutions work seamlessly together. The fit between Virtual Iron and StoreVault is about as close to pure plug and play as it gets. You can’t do real business continuity any less expensively than this.”

StoreVault provides an all-in-one storage solution for mid-market organisations. It includes simple storage consolidation, which enables customers to implement a virtual infrastructure environment to increase storage utilisation, improve data protection, facilitate disaster recovery, and enhance virtualised server availability and workload migration. Virtual Iron provides comprehensive, easy-to-use capabilities on an infrastructure-friendly architecture. It combines the latest version of the Xen® open source hypervisor with advanced virtualisation services and policy-based automation capabilities such as Virtual Iron® LiveMigrate™, LiveRecovery™, and LiveCapacity®. Virtual Iron also takes full advantage of the latest hardware–assisted virtualisation capabilities from AMD and Intel® to deliver near native performance.

"Mid-market customers are looking to server and storage virtualisation for the same reason as large enterprises - to reduce data centre complexity and increase IT flexibility," said Sajai Krishnan, general manager of the StoreVault division. "StoreVault storage solutions for virtualised environments provide customers with the perfect complement to Virtual Iron's server virtualisation platform. Together, these solutions deliver the affordable capabilities users need without the complexity of more costly combinations.”

“By deploying StoreVault storage solutions with Virtual Iron, users achieve a flexible, easy-to-use, and affordable virtualised infrastructure that adapts to changing business requirements,” said Mike Grandinetti, chief marketing officer at Virtual Iron Software. “Virtual Iron’s unique storage architecture allows storage and server users to fully leverage the features and capabilities in their existing data centre infrastructure to reduce costs, increase workload manageability, and improve quality of service.”
