Competition Set to Increase in the Australian and New Zealand Security Services Market

 • 06 February, 2008 12:15

SYDNEY, 5 February 2008, IDC has found that the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) security service market remains highly fragmented despite a strong consolidation trend, with several large and small vendors targeting different market segments.

Players range from "one-man" shops, specialist security service firms, global and local systems integrators (SIs) and consulting firms, telecommunications and network SPs, outsourcers and security product vendors.

As a result of the consolidation trend IDC expects competition among security service providers to increase even if, in many cases, security service providers are still approaching the market in unique ways, targeting different segments and installed customer bases, hence often competing indirectly rather than head to head.

IDC’s senior analyst for security solutions research, Patrik Bihammar said, “Demand for security services in the ANZ market is being driven by customer challenges around managing security complexity, operational costs, the lack of in-house security skills and expertise and regulatory compliance pressure and corporate governance concerns.”

“ANZ organisations are facing increasingly sophisticated security risks and compliance requirements to monitor not only external threats, but also information leaving the organisation.”

"Providers with end-to-end security service capabilities are expected to have an advantage over niche service providers as customers often prefer working with single trusted advisors. As a result, IDC expects the consolidation trend observed in the security services market to continue," added Bihammar.

The findings come from IDC's report, ‘Australia and New Zealand Security Services Competitive Analysis, 2007’. The report analyses a sample of security service providers in the ANZ security services market, including IBM, LogicaCMG, Telstra/KAZ, Unisys and Verizon Business Security Solutions Powered by Cybertrust.
