M2M launches Stellar M2M satellite modules launch for Orbcomm network

 • 16 November, 2007 11:24

M2M Connectivity announces the commercial launch of Stellar's low cost 2-way satellite messaging modules and modems for the ORBCOMM Network for the Australian and New Zealand Markets.

M2M Connectivity has been named as the distributor for Stellar Satellite Communications Ltd. satellite data communications products in Australia and New Zealand. These products work on the ORBCOMM satellite network, providing two-way messaging for tracking and monitoring applications. Manufactured by Delphi Electronics and Safety to exacting OEM telematics standards, Stellar products are designed and field-proven to withstand harsh environments common to many industrial applications.

“We are delighted to be working with M2M Connectivity to launch Stellar’s satellite M2M data communications products into the Australian and New Zealand markets. Stellar will work closely with M2M to introduce its products to local developers and System Integrators” said Zvi Huber, General Manager of Stellar.

M2M Connectivity will supply the Stellar DS100 module and DS300 Integrated Modem to the market together with a complete range of accessories (antennas and cables). In addition, M2M will supply developer kits and provide in-country support to developers to integrate Stellar units. Hardware costs start at around A$210 for a simple module and around A$300 for a integrated modem. The DS100 is a full-duplex satellite data communications module that can be integrated into many fixed and mobile M2M applications. The DS300 expands on the capabilities of the DS100, but is designed as a fully integrated solution that combines a very robust enclosure, power management and power conditioning capabilities, GPS receiver, and a dedicated on-board programmable CPU for running third party and custom applications.

Stellar modules and modems utilize the ORBCOMM global M2M satellite data network, which is capable of sending and receiving short messages of between six bytes and several kilobytes, in near-real-time, from virtually anywhere on Earth. The system is comprised of a global network of 29 low-earth orbit satellites and associated ground infrastructure. A new gateway earth station in Australia at Rutherglen has recently been put into operation which has greatly increased the network’s performance in the Australia/New Zealand region.
