• 11 December, 2007 09:41

Extends Powerful Remediation to Bolster Alcatel-Lucent’s Omni Access 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian by Providing an On-demand Patching Mechanism to Proactively Identify and Remediate Threats

Lumension Security™ Inc., the leading global security management company formed by PatchLink® Corporation and SecureWave, today announced a partnership with Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) that will integrate Lumension’s industry leading vulnerability and remediation management solution into Alcatel-Lucent’s Omni Access 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian. The addition of PatchLink Update provides comprehensive security for mobile assets, protection against zero-day threats and helps enforce policy compliance for remote and mobile workers by facilitating on-demand remediation of laptops anywhere, anytime, even when the computer is turned off.

“With more than 50 million mobile workers in the US, securing these mobile assets is becoming top concern for enterprises today when it comes to security management,” said Dor Skuler, general manager of Enterprise mobile security at Alcatel-Lucent. “With the addition of Lumension’s PatchLink Update to the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, we are revolutionizing the way businesses enforce polices, protect and recover stolen devices, and deliver patches and security upgrades to an increasingly mobile workforce. Teaming up with a market leader such as Lumension will help us stay ahead of the curve by providing business critical security solutions to the enterprise.”

The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is a revolutionary security and management system developed to monitor, manage and locate a mobile computers and if necessary, to eliminate access to data if the mobile computer is lost or stolen. By 2009, the global mobile workforce is expected to grow by more than 20 percent, with 878 million people working remotely, according to a study by IDC. Additionally, according to a May 2007 report published by the National Vulnerability Database, 24 new vulnerabilities are identified every day, more than half of which are considered dangerous enough to warrant immediate remediation by IT departments.

Lumension’s PatchLink Update™ is utilized through the built-in 3G card to pre-cache critical patches during off-hours–allowing administrators to deliver best-of-breed patch management for laptops in the shortest time with the least impact on laptop resources and end-user productivity. In addition, the upcoming integration of Lumension’s Sanctuary Application and Device Control will allow expanded security for the OmniAccess 3500 by offering access to policy management and reporting for protection from data leakage and installation of unauthorized applications.

“Today’s ‘Anywhere Enterprises’ are giving their employees the freedom to work anywhere their businesses take them. But ubiquitous connectivity brings increased security and device management challenges,” said Andrew Jaquith, senior analyst with Yankee Group.
“Products like Alcatel-Lucent’s can help significantly reduce security risks and protect mobile enterprise data.”

“Laptops are notoriously difficult to manage and secure once they are disconnected from the corporate network. The harm in that is there are a lot of security risks associated with that unknown asset which could potentially jeopardize the current state of security within the enterprise when it connects back onto the network,” said Rich Hlavka, senior vice president of business development at Lumension Security. “Through this partnership, Lumension is extending its powerful remediation capabilities to empower the enterprise and its mobile workforce to proactively manage risk and keep digital assets protected at all times. We are also planning to add Sanctuary endpoint security solution for comprehensive IT policy enforcement to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data and information.”

“By utilizing the unique capabilities of OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, mobile clients can achieve the most accurate, on-demand patch and remediation from Lumension’s best-of-breed security solutions,” continued Hlavka.
