Archiving And Compliance: Plasmon And BridgeHead Software Announce Joint Archiving And Compliance Solution

 • 17 October, 2007 10:34

New easy to deploy bundled product delivers policy based archiving without the usual integration and configuration headaches

Sydney, October 12, 2007 -- AustSTOR (ADS) Pty Ltd announces that Plasmon and BridgeHead Software are providing a cost effective, easy to deploy, joint product bundle for complete policy based data archiving, compliance and protection. The new solution automatically migrates unstructured files and emails across the network into a self-managing and compliant repository, minimizing the integration and configuration workload.

The bundle includes BridgeHead’s HT FileStore storage management and data migration software, with Plasmon’s UDO Archive Appliance, a self contained, network attached archive device, which manages data within an UDO (Ultra Density Optical) library and an allocation of built-in fixed RAID disk.

HT FileStore is pre-configured to scan primary storage resources on the network looking for static data, which it automatically migrates to the Archive Appliance. The data is first written to the Archive Appliance’s RAID cache for rapid access, and is then immediately committed to secure UDO for long-term retention. This provides a fast response to recently accessed data while ensuring that the archived records are absolutely secure on UDO media.

Because the Archive Appliance can simply be attached to the network, there is no need for configuration of secondary storage media and servers. HT FileStore further increases ease of deployment by making the full solution “ready” to archive data, without the usual need for complex integration of software and hardware components.

The use of WORM (Write Once Read Many) UDO media and advanced auditing, access control, and removable media management means the solution stores data in compliance with regulations governing record retention, disclosure and document authenticity. By transferring fixed content from the primary store to the Archive Appliance, HT FileStore reduces backup data volumes and overall capacity requirements for expensive tier-1 storage.

The Plasmon-Bridgehead offering provides a range of storage capacities from 1TB to over 76TB to deliver an automated, policy based solution that allows IT organizations to move, replicate and protect data throughout its lifecycle.

“The bundle will free end-users from the headache of configuring data and storage management rules,” said David Thomson, sales director of Plasmon. “Our channel partners will use it to create pre-configured turn-key archiving solutions which can address customers’ data migration and compliance needs.”

“The bundling of the two products is more than just the sum of the combined technical features. It’s a complete and cost-effective solution for end-to-end policy based file archiving which does away with much of the usual administrative workload that users usually have to deal with,” said Patrick Dowling, senior vice president business development & product strategy, BridgeHead Software.

The bundle can be used to protect against site or system failure. HT FileStore’s disaster recovery (DR) policies can create and manage up to four redundant copies of archive data. Multiple copies can be written to more than one Archive Appliance at different sites and if the primary archive is unavailable, HT FileStore can be set to automatically fail over to a secondary site. The Archive Appliance itself can automatically create duplicate UDO media copies, which can be taken offline and stored at a secure location, providing a cost effective DR option. Customers can choose to employ both strategies in order to create three copies of data on multiple sites, with one set offline, to provide maximum resilience and flexibility in the event of an unforeseen disaster.
