Australian research software firm moves further ahead with new website

 • 26 July, 2007 16:13

Where else can you access the latest independent thinking in qualitative research, share tips and advice with thousands of your peers, register for events worldwide and download free software and resources around the clock?

That’s what’s on offer at Melbourne qualitative research software firm QSR International’s new website – www.qsrinternational.com.

QSR International CEO John Owen said the website would expose the Doncaster company and its flagship research software NVivo and XSight to new markets, as well as provide enhanced service for the company’s existing customers.

QSR’s products - designed to help researchers and others working with non-numerical data compile, compare and make sense of their information quickly and easily – are already used by more than 350,000 people and organizations in 90 countries.

“Our website has always been critical to the delivery of our software support and services to customers, and now it serves an ever greater function,” he said.

“The site not only expresses the unique QSR personality – but also applies strong functional design principles and follows international accessibility guidelines. From round-the-clock purchasing options and resources in different languages to the new look Forum and a huge database of resource articles, it delivers more information than ever before, yet is easier to navigate and use.”

QSR International Marketing Director Karen Thomas said the intensive website redevelopment took 12 months. While the site has a host of new features, she said it continued to offer try-before-you-buy functionality.

“The website allows users to try one or both of our products for 30 days, access support and animated tutorials and ask thousands of independent Forum users for advice and tips on the software before deciding if it’s for them,” she said.

When QSR launched its original website seven years ago the company was one of the first in Australia to introduce a true multi currency system. Since then the website has grown rapidly in popularity, with figures showing a 70% increase in website traffic in the past 18 months.

“We were getting increasing numbers of hits each month with users spending more and more time browsing the site. Also, nearly 2000 people were visiting purely to download our trial software every month,” said Ms Thomas.

“More than 80 per cent of hits were from outside Australia. We wanted the new site to recognise our expanding global customer base and ensure visitors had access to information when and where they needed it, regardless of the time zone.

“The new website now allows users to print their own customised pricing and has an online shop that accepts more currencies, including US dollars, UK pounds, Euros and Australian dollars. There’s information about licensing and purchasing, the ability to search for resellers and register for events worldwide, or offer feedback about our trainers.

“We’ve also translated key company and product information into Japanese and Mandarin and the website contains our widest range of support resources yet, from online help and a comprehensive question and answer section, to animated tutorials, case studies and the latest thinking from independent experts.”

Ms Thomas said prior to the website’s launch, a cross section of customers and external stakeholders from academia, government, and commercial organisations reviewed the site and tested its functionality and navigation.
