Ease Wireless Access and Security Headaches with LevelOne Wireless AP Management Gateway

 • 02 April, 2007 15:26

As wireless networks become more popular, network administrators’ headaches increase – caused by additional security issues and significantly more administration tasks. And when the number of short-term users is high – such as in Internet Cafes, Hotel/Motel guests, and even contractors/visitors in a business environment – the effort to manage the network can become overwhelming.

Digital Data Communications has released a new device, the LevelOne AMG-2000 wireless AP management gateway, to reduce network administrators’ headaches. It eases their jobs by simplifying network deployment, promoting integrated security and increasing scalability. This solution is designed to meet the needs of Small/Medium Businesses, hotels/motels, educational units, apartments and sales/branch offices.

AMG-2000 has an integrated Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server to provide authorized end-to-end communications for both wireless and wired networks. User authentication can be based on AMG-2000’s built-in database, or on any of the popular servers, such as RADIUS, LDAP, NT Domain or POP3.

With a “policy-based multiple user categories” approach, the AMG-2000 can easily maintain up to 2000 concurrent guest accounts – great for providing WLAN access to hotel/motel guests or office/campus visitors. In order to allow these external users on the WAN and then keep their data out of the internal network, guest traffic is mapped to tunnels that connect them directly to a DMZ.

When AMG-2000 is deployed with LevelOne Access Points (WAP-0006, WAP-0008 and/or WAP-0009), it provides additional benefit of integrated configuration, management and access control, all from the AMG-2000’s web user interface, which also provides system alarms and statistical reports on managed APs.
